Humberside Airport History
Humberside Airport has an interesting history, starting life in 1941 as a Royal Airforce base under the name RAF Kirmington. In 1974, the site was re-opened as Kirmington Airport after having sat unused for almost 30 years. Just six days later, the local area was renamed Humberside and so along with it Kirmington Airport became Humberside Airport. Since its reopening, Humberside Airport has grown and developed and is now an important gateway to the North of England for national and international visitors alike.
