Before Boarding at East Midlands Airport

Before boarding when you fly out from East Midlands Airport, you will have to pass through a series of necessary steps at the airport. First out of these is arranging where to park your car for the duration of your stay. If you leave this to when you arrive at the airport, you risk a frustrating search for an elusive space, and you will end up paying the full price of on-the-gate parking, which is the most expensive way to park at the airport. Far better is to pre-book airport parking online with Airparks; you will have a reserved parking space waiting for you when you turn up, and you can save up to 60% off the on-gate price.

Getting to the Check-In Desk

Getting to the check-in desk is easy; simply hop on one of our regular, reliable transfer buses and you will be delivered to the airport terminals. Transfer times will vary depending on whether you park off-airport or on-airport; off-airport parking has longer transfer times but is cheaper, on-airport parking is slightly more expensive but benefits from close proximity to the airport buildings and consequently shorter transfer times. Alternatively, you can avoid transfer buses altogether by booking the East Midlands Stress-Free Meet & Greet Parking option.

At the Check-In Desk

Once you’ve been taken to airport terminal, the next step is to find your check-in desk. There will be departure screens as you walk into the airport building displaying which check-in desks the various flights for that day will be using. Check-in desks are well sign-posted, but should you need any assistance in finding yours there will be staff around to point you in the right direction.

At the check-in desk, you will need to check your main large luggage in to go on the hold of the plane. The check in assistant will need to see your airline ticket and passport; your ticket will be exchanged for a boarding pass, unless you have already checked-in online, as some companies allow you to do, in which case the e-mail you were sent confirming your flight details will be your boarding pass.

Passport Control and Security

After checking-in, you should proceed to passport control; the official there will check your passport and wave you through to the security check. Here you’ll have to go through a metal detector and your hand luggage will be x-rayed. It is important to make sure you do not have any dangerous items on your person or in your hand luggage at this point, such as nail files, cork-screws or anything else that could be viewed as unsafe. In addition to this, the amount of liquid you can take on the plane is restricted; only up to 100ml can be taken on in a container, and this must be sealed in a clear plastic bag provided by security staff.

The Final Countdown

When you have completed the above steps, you can begin to enjoy your holiday. All that’s left to do is find your departure lounge and gate, where you will need to show your boarding pass and passport to the airline staff on the desk there. Simply await the call to board and you can get on the plane.
